This is an old Chinese Cuisine Eating Place in Sathorn Area, already existing more than 30 years. Actually there are two restaurants in this same alley (Charanvieng) – no air-conditioning which is the right side called San-Yod Phochana while with air-conditioning which you can reach earlier on left side called Grand San-Yod. Nothing is different in terms of dishes, taste or price – just only your need whether you want to catch some Bangkok air or get a more authentic Chinese feeling with Air-conditioning.

At San-Yod, there are a lots of grilled or what we call roast things such as roast duck, BBQ pork, or crispy roast pork. However, the Well-Known and Classic Dish of San-Yod is “Roast Duck” – The texture of duck is just right (not too fatty or too dry out like others) but with crispy red skin on. The roast duck was come together with lot amount of sauce (brownish Chinese soy bean mixed sauce which is not as sticky as others) underneath is fresh cucumber and pickle pinky ginger.

There is no rule to order the grilled / roast things here since you can mix roast duck with crispy roast streaky pork in one plate (like we did) – “The Crispy Roast Streaky Pork” is so softy yummy even there’s a lot of fat in but still containing the crispy skin on top.

Another famous item here is “Shrimp Wanton” -- it’s the real BIG fresh shrimp in wanton sheet. You can try shrimp wanton soup or other fancy item made from shrimp such as “Deep Fried Shrimp Cake in Sweet bell Peppers with Salted Black Bean”.

During lunch time, you can see a lot of working people come to get one rice dish with roast duck, BBQ pork, or crispy pork. However, you can try noodle dish too either topped with roast duck or something fancy like “Fried Noodle Topped with Egg Soup”. If you know Kuey Tiew Laad Nah, this is similar since it’s made from flat white noodle topped with same kind of gravy and shrimp – only if the gravy containing with egg … This is another yummy stip of Laad Nah … But Laad Nah itself here is also delicious (but don’t forget to order to use Hong Kong vegetables since it’s more fresh and more crispy).

Price of individual dish such as Noodle or Rice Dish : 40 – 60 Bht Price for Roast Duck, Roast Pork, BBQ Pork : 120 – 140 Bht (small size)

Warning for eating at San-Yod: Don’t go alone -- must come with loads of people since there are lots of dishes you need to order for sharing (and eating as Chinese Meal) even if you order the smallest size! It’s more enjoyable than rush one dish during lunch time.
